Failure to Progress

Murphy's Law would dictate that the week our referrals were to be sent, China would delay sending them because of the Swine Flu Outbreak. When SARS became a worldwide fear, referrals and travel to China halted suddenly until the all clear. While we're more than anxious to see our child's face for the first time, I suspect we may be getting a little busy at home in the near future.
We had a wonderful time on our four day "holiday" to Toronto and the Niagara Region. We planned this as a combination of meetings and a last little get-away for Lil before the competition arrives. It was also a holiday "boot camp" for her to see if she could stand up to the rigors of a China adoption trip which involves the family being clean, fed, dressed and on a tour bus by 8 am each morning. So strap on your Nikes, we are vacationing obstetrical style .
On day one, we were up at 6 for a meeting at a Mississauga IVF Clinic until 1pm, and then headed to Toronto for Tony`s SOGC conference. Mom and Lil did the Eaton Centre to buy summer clothes, out for dinner, Lil slept at the restaurant while we enjoyed the quiet. Day two was Tony back at the conference, while Lil and I walked 2km to the Royal Ontario Museum to see the dino display. I loved the ancient Chinese artifact room, she had more fun watching the dogs chase squirrels in Queen`s Park. On the walk back, she reminded me that walking was good for her heart but she was getting a little tired. By lunch time, we were on the way to Niagara Falls with Lil plugged into the Incredible`s on the DVD. The wind was so high on this drive that there were times my Mom van felt like it was airborne and there was apparently a tornado identified nearby. We spent our evening overlooking the amazing falls from our room. The junior partner had a swim in the pool and lost consciousness about 8 pm. We`re half way through...stay with me.
Day 3, up at 7, over did it at the breakfast buffet, off to the Butterfly Conservatory. Tony and I could not stop taking photos of these beautiful beings and could have actually just sat for two hours watching them. Lil loved the circular path around the conservatory and ran in several times as we relaxed. We then headed to Niagara on the Lake for more food, shopping, ice cream, wine and returned to Niagara to do the Falls. Lil really liked the little train to the falls, but wasn`t particularly interested in the natural wonder itself. More food, more swimming, all unconscious by 9 pm.
Day four, up at 6, too much food, off to Burlington Ikea...fun, fun, fun, then to a meeting with our ONE Fertility IVF partners, tour of the new IVF Centre, more food, lots of laughs, drive home.
It sure feels good to be back to work.
