Doing Disney

It was with great trepidation that we booked a holiday to Orlando for March break this year but friends invited us along and we considered that there is strength in numbers. I now realize that any experienced parents would tell me that "March break" and "Orlando" should never fall in the same sentence but we did survive China in the summer so I thought we were pretty hardy folk. We planned to go to Disney for a day and maybe Sea World but this was going to be a restful vacation right?

We did do a couple of smart things though. Coming to terms with the end of our couples only resort days, we booked a villa complete with two bedrooms, a kitchen and washer and dryer. We have used every square inch of space and have already needed the dryer to be repaired once. After a couple days of restaurant food my gallbladder starts screaming for mercy, and it is great to be able to have a healthy meal, even if I have to make it myself. Besides paying $6.99 for a kids bowl of cheerios gets old really fast.

We also recruited an extra pair of hands. Tony's daughter Mandy enthusiastically agreed to join us for the week and has been a great help with the junior partners. So before you mail us a Get Well card, I am proud to say that we are still standing and most days the kids wipe out long before we do. We've gone to Sea World twice and Magic Kingdom once. Tomorrow is Animal Kingdom day leaving one day to pack before our return home.

While the girls were interested in the Disney attractions, they were most excited about Sea World. Lil has always been a nature lover and knows that ducks don't really behave like Donald and that Bella would be happy to catch any mouse, even if his name is Mickey. The best entertainment always seems to be nature, and Lil loved the penguins, Gracie loved the squirrels and the dog and cat show.

While it would be a stretch to say this has been a rest, it certainly has been a fun vacation and given enough Advil, I would be prepared to do it again in a few years. Besides those couples only holidays were totally boring...sigh.
