When Bad Things Happen to Good Laundry Guys
We had our six month post-placement home study last week and when our social worker asked if anything significant had changed in our day to day lives, we said emphatically: "laundry".
Tony and I had made a deal years ago that I took care of the cooking and cleaning, and his job would be the laundry. This worked out reasonably well for us as Tony could iron while watching hockey in the man room, while I practiced my culinary skills, exercised the smoke alarm, and satisfied my obsessive need for a clean house. However, living with three divas has created new challenges for my laundry guy as Lil alone can easily have 3 wardrobe changes a day and Gracie...well dirt just happens.
This week we got a little distracted working around the house and forgot Lucy dog on the bed. We had let her nap there because she is old and feeble and Bella jumps all over her given any opportunity. But Lucy can't jump off the bed and our oversight created enough laundry to see poor Tony through the Olympic games. Thinking that this was a one time accident, we let the old girl nap on the bed again this week and well, I guess its good that the Olympic games last for 2 weeks.
But he's not complaining because my job at the moment is potty training Gracie.
We considered moving Grace out of the tiny nursery and upstairs to the kids bedrooms until I had a flashback to the day when Lil discovered the entertainment found in her own diaper. We thought that she was just having a long nap, but what we discovered when entering to wake the sleeping baby resembled a chocolate factory!!! For the next 6 months Lil went to bed with duct tape reinforcing her diaper tabs. She fondly referred to this as her silver belt.
A year later we renovated the upstairs bedrooms and in a moment of blondness, I allowed the carpet salesman to talk me into beautiful white carpet for the kids bedrooms. So to make a short story long, this is why Gracie is not yet allowed in the upstairs bedrooms. Luckily she is somewhat vertically challenged and has not yet outgrown the crib but the pressure is on.
And Lucy has been evicted from the marital bed.
