Great Wall Day-August 2
Today we headed off in the bus to visit the Jade Factory and the Great Wall. It was a gravol/immodium day so my enthusiasm was somewhat diminished. However, the more stoic of the group followed Lil up the wall in 35 degree temps, while I stayed behind in the bus with Gracie.
We did get a glimpse of the olympic sites including the water cube and birds nest on the way back and would have enjoyed a tour but that is not on the to-do list this week.
Our youngest daughter has introduced us to a modified version of temper tantrums. If she is unhappy, she simply folds herself in half and cries into the floor. This muffles the screaming sounds quite effectively and makes her quite portable. Leave it to the Chinese to improve on efficiency.
Tackling the morning shower however has been a challenge. The hotel we are in is quite modern and beautiful and each bathroom has a tub and shower stall. However, only cold water comes out of the tub taps and few of us have volunteered for the cold shower. The shower stall is about 2x2 but has a shower head with the pressure of a fire hose and a range of about 20 feet. We are clean, as is the entire bathroom floor, but somewhat dazed at the end of our morning ritual.
Today we tackle the silk market and practice our bargaining skills. Whoever comes homes with the most stuff wins.
