The Lights Are Off But Everybody's Home

When the city inspector showed up this week he asked "are you actually living here during this reno?" I pointed to the blind deaf incontinent schnauzer and the two wild children running in circles around the dining/office/storage room and asked "Do you know of any landlords looking for tennants like us?"
This week has been like labour's third stage...praying that the contractions will end, blaming each other for getting into this mess, and fits of bad temper accompanied by a fair amount of potty talk...especially when I fell face first into 2 feet of snow while trying to get bags of groceries into the house.
However the mechanicals got done...new ducting, a new furnace, electrical including a new panel, and tons of insulation. The north wall of our bedroom/storageroom came down along with the room temperature, and the kids bedroom/playroom was gutted to allow for new ducting. So the kids are now sleeping in the old nursery/storage/office/closet room and playing in the 1/2 living/dog room. We had power and heating intermittently during the day and I missed a few episodes of All My Children as a result...and just when Ryan and Greenlee are finally getting married...so that put me in a mood.
The upside is that the kids think this is one big adventure. Most of their toys are out of reach but they have managed to amuse themselves without causing any permanent harm to themselves or the canines...so far.
I think next week will be better. The weather is showing signs of a warm up and getting outside to play today relieved the pressure of living in four rooms. There are promises of drywall starting and the new window for our master bedroom is ready to be installed. Tony is on call tonight, so if he can't sleep through the activity tomorrow, I've advised him to go test drive some cars at the Mercedes dealership. Just trying to keep the peace.
