Happy Birthday Wild Child
What a wonderful day to be born...January 1st. The world celebrates hope for a brand new year. Grace will never have to go to school on her birthday and she`ll always be the oldest in the class...although probably not the biggest given her small but mighty stature.
Today Gracie turned terrific two! Given that all of our friends were off work, and out of school, we celebrated with more food than we could cope with at our favorite chinese restaurant. Gracie took it all in, enjoyed the attention and the feast and managed to get through the entire day without one single hissy fit. One day of terrible twos down, 364 to go.
What a terrible day to be abandoned...not so much for the baby as she wouldn`t really know...but for the birth mother who every year will be reminded that on the date the world celebrates a new year, she surrendered a new life.
One of Lil`s friends was trying to understand the unthinkable about Grace`s birthday or finding day and I didn`t really have logical answers for him about the events of her abandonment and rescue. So he offered his own explanation: When Gracie got lost, she used her cellphone to call the police.
I believe you might be right, she does enjoy a good i-phone and seemed to arrive with a working knowledge of all things electronic...I replied.
Gracie nodded in agreement and peered longingly at the 7 year olds i-phone.
I wasn`t really going to have a big party for Grace this year given our frantic pace and over indulgences this Christmas season. But I am so glad that we did have a party and we probably will every year so that Grace knows that all birthdays should be about great celebration with those who love us regardless of how we land on this imperfect planet.
Here`s to a 2010 filled with as much love and laughter as we can stuff into 365 days.
