We Are Family
We took the plunge and decided to visit Great Wolf Lodge with the kids over the Xmas holidays. We put kids activities at the top of our to-do list recently, doubled up on our calcium and vitamin D supplements and forged ahead with our plans. When we mentioned our plans to my sisters, they elected to join us at GWL with their families for the first Xmas reunion we've had in over 10 years! So it was with great anticipation that we packed up the mom-van on Dec 26 and headed for the US border.
"Why are you so happy?" asked the border officer.
"We are going to Great Wolf Lodge!" I replied
He looked puzzled as he leafed through our passports and peered at the pediatric contingent in the backseat.
"Tell me how this happened" he said
Those who know me are afraid to read what happened next because you know that I wanted to launch into a description of surrogacy and sperm donation. Or even more effective might have been a detailed description of the paper trail and effort we had invested in the last 6 years to adopt Lil and Grace. But I wanted even more to make it to the Lodge before the holiday was over and he didn't seem to have a sense of humour.
So I gave him the Coles Notes version of international adoption and he replied:
"So you are one family"
And with the confusion sorted out, we were on our way.
Except for Gracie being afraid of everything associated with water, and the boys suffering the natural consequences of the morning after the night before, we had an excellent time of it...a very Merry Family Xmas Holiday.
