Happy Turkey Day!

It is a great thing to have one day a year dedicated to appreciating all of our blessings, and to stuff ourselves silly with turkey and pumpkin pie. We did the buffet at our local golf club last night so tonight I decided to cook up a beautiful squash apple soup with the riches from our vegetable garden, and other such tasties.
So at dinner we each had a turn to talk about what we were most grateful for.
Grace screeched at the top of her lungs and threw her roast potatoes to the schnauzers who were very grateful.
Lil said her soup was almost ok, and she was grateful for the Virgin Mary and the Church. She then turned into a 13 year old earning herself a time out in the process. Something to talk about at her first confession I guess.
After Tony had a big gulp of wine, he modelled the appropriate thank you for his wife, family and dogs...well except for the blind poodle who was banging around in the kitchen. He was also really grateful for the soup.
And I gave thanks for my lovely man who can move 6 yards of stone, diaper a baby, bring home the bacon (including the swine's virus) and clean up the kitchen post Thanksgiving dinner (hint).
I feel so incredibly lucky to be called Momma at this stage of my life and to have bright, mostly happy kids who teach me something new every day. This includes my four legged kids who provide our family with unconditional love and fun every day.
And I am especially grateful to no longer be pregnant.

Oh Mary I had to laugh at the last line! I so know that feeling!
Happy thankful day and maybe we should learn to be thankful everday for all our blessings! When your man is finished at your house maybe he could come and help at mine! :)

Mary,
Your posts always make me laugh. Life in your household is never dull, I can tell.
But this post, whether it was my second glass of wine, or the post itself, brought a tear to my eye. How fabulous to have so many wonderful things within arms reach to be tankful for.
We too have been waiting, sometimes not so patiently for the day whe we will have a strong willed daughter in our house.
Until then, I shall enjoy the lives of others, especially yours.
Keep up the good work, and never have an empty wine glass.
