Sisters

This has been a turning point week for Lil and Grace as they adjust to the idea that they are forever sisters. It helped that Lil put the tantrums to rest, and that she has a pretty cool playroom full of toys to share with little sister.

Grace has relaxed into her new situation and is very generous with hugs - which resemble a football tackle - and kisses, primarily for Bella. She has revealed herself as a risk taker: diving off the bed, eating compost, dunking her head in the bathwater, grabbing Tasha by the business end, and running around the house with wild abandon...all which amuses Lil to no end. She is extremely musical - will stop and do the funky chicken to any musical sound from Bach to motown to Lil's B Scale. This kid is about constant motion.

Lil, now a seasoned grade 1 student, has suffered 2 head injuries requiring ice and a call from the school. Her recall of the school day is minimal (aside from the head injuries) as we think she is bored silly reviewing most of what she learned at daycare two years ago. Recently when she reiterated her desire to be a doctor like Daddy we discussed the importance of paying attention at school so that she would learn what she needed to. Her response was: "my brain just turns off sometimes Mom and I cannot remember things, so maybe I could just be a nurse like you". When I hotly informed her that she would then have to remember everything a nurse does, and most of what a doctor is supposed to know, she said "ok then, I'll just be a doctor". (I think her father is coaching her.) Lil is also learning math this year and has calculated that her Dad and I may need wheelchairs before Grace is big enough to push us around in them.

It would seem that the terrible twos and the age of reason will simultaneously descend on us in the near future. Nitro patch anyone?
