Forever A Family
This morning we have made the rounds to government offices to sign our final adoption papers and to be interviewed by several government officials to determine if we were satisfied with our newest family member and whether we had considered our choice to adopt seriously. As long as we nodded yes to all of their questions, they seemed to be happy. All of this was done behind masks as the Chinese population continues to be terrified of any health risks we may impart on their population.
If any of you have ever visited Nanning, you would quickly realize that Canadian germs should be the least of their worries. There are no traffic rules other than the fittest survive. The streets are crowded with a combination of bikes, motorbikes , cars and buses. Buses are at the top of the food chain followed by cars, motorbikes, bikes and finally the lowly pedestrians. To up the excitement factor, bikes are often loaded with 2 adults and 2 kids, occasionally while one infant is being breast fed. There are no helmets or protective riding clothing and many bikers are seen wearing high heels and short skirts. I cannot imagine that people live long enough here to catch the swine flu, but it is apparently a #1 fear.
Nanning is a very tropical area with lush plantings and almond trees lining the streets. As we were walking along I thought how happy our neighbourhood squirrels would be here with the abundance of nuts....but we didn't see a single squirrel...as far as we know anyway.
Gracie girl is adjusting famously - running into our arms, eating everything on Mom's plate, attaching to big sister and her fun toys and water bottle. Not too much sibling rivalry so far - Grace screams, Lily gives in. That will change but for now Lil choses to keep the peace. It would seem that our Grace loves a good pair of shoes as well. When we put her new robbies on her last night, she couldn't stop looking at them and showing them off. And although she loves her Daddy, I think this chick is going to be a Momma's girl. YES!
Having Anne and Scott here has been a Godsend. They have showered so much attention on the girls, been the official photographers and had our back every second of the way. Because of them our adoption experience has been so much easier this time...okay except for the emergency landing...but I'm getting over that.
This afternoon, the real excitement starts. We're going to Walmart.

Wow, Nanning sounds just like Nanchang where we meet Olivia. It's a whole different world isn't it..LOL! Except one of our group members Frank(who is about 6.3 feet) got hit by a car while crossing the street. Damage - all to the car and none to Frank!
Anyway, Glad to hear that grace is adjusting well and the girls are getting along. You all look so happy and just gleaming with joy!
Keep posting,
Heidi
