July 26

Today it is Tony's turn to blog as Mary is now in the land of the walking-sleeping people.  There really is something to this jet-lag business that completely screws with your brain in ways sometimes only others can see!!
Anyway, here we are in Nanning, meaning "southern peace".  Tomorrow is "gotcha day" and any peace will be shattered.  We are settling into our Hotel, which after a room move seems quite acceptable.  Lily is completely wired, ranging from falling asleep at the dinner table to wild fits of uncontrollable giggles in about 15 milliseconds.
Last night we experienced a Mongolian restaurant.  Half the menu consisted of organs we would only expect to see on a pathology report.  One could sample the male reproductive organs of almost any mammalian species, or alternatively camel hooves perpared in any of a dozen ways.  It was also "open mike night" with a variety of singers and dancers, balancing plates on heads, playing odd chinese stringed instruments etc.  Lily was particularly keen on one singer, but I suspect only because she sounded a bit like one of our schnausers yodelling.  Anyway, on the good side, it was all made more entertaining by the beer and the whole thing cost less that $30 all in.

A couple more photos from yesterday attatched - the Temple of Heaven

Mofre excitment tomorrow

More storage. Better anti-spam and antivirus protection. Hotmail makes it simple.

Well...did you see any CAT on the menu? It's "the other white meat". Or so your Schnauzers think... Jim is reading a story in the Toronto Star online about how activists in China are trying to get cat off the menu at local meat markets. Apparently you can buy fresh cat for 64 yuan for a 10 kg cat (top quality, of course). Braised cat in a restaurant goes for 148 yuan in Dongguan. ..a side trip perhaps?

Cat "fisherman" catch as many as 20 cats daily to sell to local meat markets. Hmmm...I wonder if they would be interested in some fine racoon meat. Seriously...promise us you will stick to silk, jade and shoes at the markets.

Sounds nice that your hotels have,so far, been satisfactory. That's a bonus, based on the stories of your first trip.

You must be getting very excited about tomorrow! I know I am! Can't wait to see Grace in your arms! Better remember to bring lots of kleenex for all those tears of relief...Anne, I believe you were supposed to be in charge of the kleenex. Truly, have a good night's sleep tonight (if you can) and enjoy and remember every minute of tomorrow! And please take A LOT of pictures!!! Anne, maybe you can try to get Grace pictures on your Facebook page after that so we can print them.

All our love to you! Cathy, Jim, Catherine and Kenneth
